When we fought for the Minnesota 8 and were able to protect three of them from being deported to Cambodia, we received national recognition for our work—winning 2017 Campaign of the Year Award from Southeast Asian Resource Action Center (SEARAC), featuring in documentaries made by the New Yorker & Al Jazeera, and more. Since then, MN8 has become a national model for effective family advocacy. Our org has built partnerships that support impacted individuals & their families. In the last year alone, MN8 celebrated the first Southeast Asian community member in the Midwest to return home from deportation, celebrated Shorty’s (one of the original Minnesota 8) citizenship, supported over 100 Southeast Asian families in mutual aid financially & through culturally specific foods, and grew our staff. For more on how our work has been shared with the world, please see the media coverage below.
