MN8 is proud to be a partner of the Taking Root Tour and will be bringing this special docuseries from VietLead, based in Philadelphia, to the Twin Cities. Taking Root captures the history of refugee resettlement in Philadelphia from 1975 to 1995 as told by Philadelphian Southeast Asians. This story is one that Southeast Asian refugee communities across the U.S. experienced after their resettlement.
Throughout Taking Root, the docuseries amplifies the intergenerational impact of structural violence and demonstrates the power of Southeast Asian refugees resisting and rebuilding in America.
It is a story by our community, for our community. Our goal is to center the vulnerability and resilience of our refugee stories to transform our intergenerational power. As we approach the 50th Anniversary of the U.S. Wars in Southeast Asia in 2025, it is more important than ever for us to reclaim our refugee story and challenge anti-Black, anti-Asian, and xenophobic narratives. We are excited and humbled to bring Taking Root here to Minnesota because of our state’s unique history of Southeast Asian refugee resettlement. Join us for a night full of community empowerment and experience the power of storytelling through Southeast Asian reclamation. Our history can only be told through the voices most suppressed to confront injustice.
